Since 2019, casinos and sportsbooks have been packing themselves in through the door to offer Pennsylvania their best in sports betting products. In PA, it’s truly a game of king of the hill going on, with all heavy-hitter brands throwing their weight around.
Since the PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Participation Act) was lifted in 2018 at the federal level, the state of Pennsylvania wasted little time in allowing for operators to receive their licenses – which 9 Sportsbooks have already – the first being SugarHouse, who went live in May of 2019.
This opened the door for others, such as FanDuel, Fox Bet, BetRivers, and Parx Casino to launch sportsbooks of their own – while more names in PA betting and international sports betting await to go live.
PA Sportsbooks and Mobile Apps
PA is a serious gambling state and its casinos are opportunistic. Since 2019, nine operators have been approved for licensing. Five of these sportsbooks are currently operating, live, and online now. The others are set to launch at any moment. One other: DraftKings who hasn’t been approved for licensing, but they’ll receive one anyway. They are slated to go live as soon as November 2019.
Since SugarHouse dropped it’s sportsbook back in May 2019, we’ve seen some top-tier brands follow.
The following PA Sportsbooks have been approved, but still await to launch their product:
- William Hill
- Harrah’s Sportsbook
- Bet America Sportsbook
And then, of course, there is DraftKings – who hasn’t been approved yet. They are awaiting their hearing, and it is predicted to work favorably for them. We could see DraftKings going live in Pennsylvania as soon as November 2019, with their top-class Power Paddy Betfair designed app.
Speaking of platforms, many of the PA online sportsbooks are using Kambi developed software for their interfaces. So, in terms of PA casinos, it boils down to a preference in which interface you are most attracted to, and which betting features you like the most.
PA Sportsbooks and Mobile Apps Promo Codes and Bonus Codes
Since sports betting in PA is new, and the competition relatively fierce, you’ll be seeing plenty of great promos and bonuses offered to gain the attention of new users. So far, we’ve been seeing no shortage of awesome promos, such as:
- New players at FanDuel sign up to receive a $500 risk-free bet.
- Players at FOX Bet get $20 and a $100 deposit match
- SugarHouse offers new users to its sportsbook a $250 deposit match
- BetRiver offers a $250 deposit match as well.
- Parx Casino Sportsbook offers new players a $250 risk-free bet just for signing up.
All of the Pennsylvania sportsbooks offer players a strong selection in markets. Many of them are similar to one another. So, if playing the markets is your only concern, you can’t go wrong with any of the PA sportsbook.
At PA online sportsbook mobile apps, expect to be able to wager on:
- Australian rules
PA Sportsbooks Betting Options
Pennsylvania law allows for the whole shebang. Pretty much the only things you’ll find off-limits in PA are high school betting (as per federal law) and wagering on non-sporting events (professional sports drafts, elections, and award shows).
PA sportsbooks offer a range of betting options, including:
- Point Spreads
PA sportsbooks offer up other cool betting features: live betting, in-play betting, cash-out options, player pools, and more.
Rewards and Loyalty Programs
Rewards programs are typically offered through the retail casino that the sportsbook is partnered with, and not the actual sportsbook itself. So far, we have some legit loyalty programs, while we wait to see what other land-based casinos have up their sleeve.
Most notable would be SugarHouse’s iRush Rewards program. It’s been championed in the state of New Jersey, loved at the physical locations, and the SugarHouse online casino as well.
The interface for iRush Rewards is awesome and makes keeping tabs on your reward points easy and fun. Speaking of easy, it’s easy to earn rewards at SugarHouse. Anytime that you wager $10 or more you will earn a point, with multiple bets earning you more.
Registration and Requirements
To wager on sporting events in the state of Pennsylvania, players must be at least 21 years of age.
Registration for online sportsbooks is quite easy. Players must go to the sportsbook websites, or download the sportsbook apps, and give general information just to verify that the use is of age.
Players can register from anywhere in the world but need to be inside of Pennsylvania state limits to place a bet. This is verified through geotracking technology, via your mobile app or the computer’s location.
In PA, it is unlawful to bet on any high school sporting event. Coaches and players may also be excluded from placing sports bets in PA. Wagering on non-sporting events (such as drafts, elections, and award shows) is also banned.
PA Banking, Deposit, and Withdrawal Options
If you’re wondering about how banking is done at Pennsylvania online casinos, it’s rather easy. At most PA online sportsbooks you’ll be able to choose from depositing funds with:
- Major credit cards and Debit Cards (Visa and MasterCard)
- Cash at casino cages at the retail locations
- Online bank transfer.
Many of the same options are available to cash-out and withdrawal, but not always. You’ll also find that many online PA sportsbooks offer the option to receive a paper check in the mail.
DraftKings and FanDuel are both in PA. Are you ready to play? Hopefully you learned a lot about Pennsylvania sports betting and where it might go from here.
