We are living in a strange time right now. There are so many questions with so few answers. We’ll try to go over the sports world and how it will affect betting.

By now you have learned what this coronavirus has done to the sports world. Every day over the past two weeks we learned about games being postponed, tournaments being postponed and now leagues suspended indefinitely. Taking precautionary measures is obviously the best method possible to reduce the rate of infection from this virus. Leagues and universities all the way down to the public school level are now on hold.

This seems like a new world situation without knowing what might happen in the future. Can we say that sports will continue? We really think they will but it will take some time. Does this mean we’re going to see sporting events in 2020? There is a good chance we may not see sporting events this year. We are very hopeful that events resume but to be honest, we just don’t know.

Sports World Timeline

Games across Europe were starting to get suspended and postponed and then players across Europe were testing positive for the actual virus. This eventually led to a ramp-up of significant closings and postponements of seasons. We are now looking at the MLB season being postponed. The NCAA decided to cancel the biggest tournament of the year. The NBA basketball season is now on hold and will be reevaluated in 30 days. All other sports leagues including NHL have decided to follow what they’re seen across the country and the world.

Some countries such as Mexico and Brazil still have no infections so they are continuing their sports leagues. It’s just a matter of time until they get their first infection and will have to decide the same fate that the US and the rest of the world.

Will we take a sports bet the rest of this year?

There are too many variables to answer this right now. We have such a trickle-down effect that will affect how sports betting is made into the future. Sportsbooks are currently in the process of refunding previous bets that were set to pay off over the next few months. Some bettors who were slated to win their proposition that will not get paid. At the same time, anyone that was losing will also get a refund for their bets.

You still have the option to bet on the sports that are located in other next countries. Sites like Draftkings will provide lines for anything that’s available if you feel like you want to make a bet. These only seem like forced bets if you don’t really follow the sports of MMA or Mexican soccer. Just remember, if you set a futures bet it could be canceled at any time should events change.

When things get back to normal

Eventually, things should get back to normal and sportsbooks will start activating lines for all the different leagues again. We will be back to provide those lines for you and give you some picks as well.

We’ve come so far in the US sports betting market and there still room to grow. This is a bump in the process and we need to accept what is happening right now.

Stay safe and don’t panic. Sports will be back.
