We went 5-2 over the Thanksgiving weekend and it turned out we chose the right games. There were some tough decisions to be made. Some teams haven’t given up on their season which really continues our theory of a week to week league. We’ll have to take more teams serious when it comes to the spread. Just look at what the Redskins, Bengals, and Dolphins did. They made taking the underdog pretty easy. Can history repeat itself two weeks in a row? Can the Redskins win three in a row? Can the Bengals start a winning streak? Let’s get into some storylines and then we’ll break down week 14 picks.
Throwing Out Some Cool Story Lines
- 1996 was the last time the Bills were 9-3
- The Saints seal up their third NFC South title.
- The Skinnies beat the Panthers on the road for the first time since 1998.
- Bengals got their first win in 350 days. Long overdue.
- Chiefs are rolling against the AFC West in the last 28 games (25-3)
- Packers know how to follow up a loss. With a win of course. Three times this year.
- Texans beat the Patriots for this first time since 2009.
That pretty much sums up key statistical data. Let’s not forget about Kirk Cousins is 0-8 on Monday night during his career. I wanted to make sure that was put out there for the world to see. Okay, enough of the shenanigans, let’s get into some week 14 picks. There is still plenty of football to play so get ready for some sweet picks. It may be hard to follow up on a 5-2 record last week but we will certainly try. We are staying away from Dallas playing on the road in Chicago on Thursday night. The Bears are coming off a nice road win in Detroit on Thanksgiving and the Cowboys are coming off a humiliating loss against the Bills. If we had to take the bet, we will take Chicago at home +2.5.
Updated – How about Dem Cowboys sucking wind again.
Baltimore Ravens @ Buffalo Bills
Bills at home are definitely tough but they are coming off such a big win that their team is due for a letdown game. Can Lamar Jackson produce at a high level once again? We do think so. They are getting a good amount of points at home but this could get out of hand if it isn’t close. We will take the Ravens on the road at -5.5.
Updated – The Bills kept it tight but the Ravens are legit.
Carolina Panthers @ Atlanta Falcons
Both of these teams are playing for shits and giggles. We think the Falcons are better than what the record states. The Panthers coming off a bad loss to the Redskins and a fired coach may seem like the team playing for something. The thing is, the Panthers liked Rivera. They may play harder than last week but we still think the Falcons pull this one-off. We are taking the Falcons at home -3.
Updated – The Panthers are spiraling and the Falcons are coming alive.
Denver Broncos @ Houston Texans
We love taking teams that go against a team that had a huge win the previous week. Although Denver got a pretty big win themselves, we still think the Texans are giving too many points to a Denver team that is better than what’s listed. We took Denver last week with 3.5 points. This week we will take the Broncos on the road in Houston at +10.0.
Updated – Not only did the Broncos win the game they crushed the Texans. The easy bet here.
Los Angeles Chargers @ Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville looked terrible last week. The QB change is the only reason for the bet. The chargers aren’t very good either but they will come to play. This is a tough bet if you want a parlay, but you can take a Jaguars/Over. Parlay and Pray. It may hit but don’t go too heavy on it. We are taking the Over and the Jaguars at home +3.
Updated – We thought a cross country travel would work in the Jaguar’s favor. Not so much. The over was good.
San Francisco 49ers @ New Orleans Saints
This is one of the three games of the week. We really don’t like this one at all but we have to stay on the Saints. At home and giving 2.5, we think they should pull off it off. I think the 49ers had a tough loss last week and may feel depleted. Although the NFL is a week to week league there is too much at stake for the Saints not to cover the spread. We are taking the Saints at home at -2.5.
Updated – This was definitely a crazy game. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out for the bettors.
Some other games or bets you can look at include the over/under in the Vikings/Lions game. We think over 43.5 is a good play here considering the money is on the under right now. Look what happened last week in Detroit. Also, check the Dolphins road game into New York. New York will look to take on an over-excited Dolphins team.
